One year on… Keep Planting

Hard to believe it’s been over a year since posting to this personal blog of musings. Regardless of appearances, I’ve been very busy. Professionally, I still work toward making myself more useful to the local farming communities that we’ve seen continue to struggle, yet also blossom since the COVID pandemic started. Generosity of spirit and true aloha has taken its Active Form. Just one example; The Maui Hub is a thriving farmer-run enterprise, supporting many producers who lost they’re hard earned restaurant contracts and other income due to the pandemic. ‘ve increased my involvement with the La Kahea farms activity in Waikapu, Maui. In the past few weeks I’ve helped plant a number of regenerative choices for crop production. Our main crop is kalo to provide for local needs. In addition Sunn Hemp and Pigeon Pea are favorites intercropped with Moringa, vetiver and native Hawaiian perennials. Large hedgerows of Banana and Sugar cane are staples throughout the developing area, which encompasses over 300 acres. I am honored for the chance to support these important happenings at a formerly abused portion of the ‘Aina (it had been in industrial sugar cane production for over 120 years). Regeneration, HO.
