I applaud my friend and colleague Kathy Thompson Esq. for her post on this seminal topic:  “WHY ARE PEOPLE POOR”  

To this well presented introductory list of causes I would add NATURAL DISASTERS.  While climate change is disputed as a causative agent by the corporate hegemony which benefits from their extractive economies, increasingly devastating hurricanes and fires seem destined to continue to be another stress factor that reinforces poverty.
